Often the mud, because of the pace of the books, is ‘stuck’ at a static point in the timeline, maybe for a year or more. How can my character progress if time stands still?

While we try to be as realistic as possible, there are just some unavoidable contradictions on a mud. This is one. It would not be much fun to be stuck as a Novice in the White Tower, never able to leave and be scrubbing pots until the Mud timeline advanced 15 or so years needed to make Aes Sedai. Especially since the books may end within a few months timeline wise, or sooner. In such a case there are options. One is to do rp set in the past to explain advancement. Another common way is to just avoid referencing book events and roleplay away. Just turn a blind eye to the fact the mud timeline does not advance often. This is the most typical action. Almost everything done is small enough scale there are no problems created. One example is the Annual Blademaster tournament of which there have been three. This is while the MUD timeline has advanced a couple of weeks. We don’t question it, the Tournament is fun and the fact there have been three annual ones in a week of the mud timeline ad
