Before encryption, messages are compressed using a standard compression algorithm [RFC1951]. Compressing data prior to encryption helps remove redundancy from the plaintext. Redundancy in the plaintext may aid cryptanalysis [BW94], [Sch96a], [MOV96], [Pfl97], [Bau97].
