OFA is really not a movement so much as the trappings of a movement. Theres stuff like this, which looks very much like a top-down sort of thing, right?
Josh: Not that there’s anything wrong with that, of course. But it’s not bottom-up or spontaneous. It’s a national party, or people really close to a national party, figuring out ways to make use of what’s left of the grassroots army Obama had at his disposal during the 2008 election. The support for Cuomo is also just part of a national strategy, which this year is supposedly more contingent than usual on defending governorships. Josh: So of course this is not a Democratic governorship that needs defending, particularly. But I guess they figure there’s no cost to making a gesture by sending out an email and asking for volunteers. I’d be very curious to know how many rally to help Andrew Cuomo stave off the dire threat posed by Rick Lazio.
