of a particulate filter work in general?
The filter media is heated up to the soot ignition temperature of 1022F and beyond it. Besides the heat, also oxygen from the ambient air is blown into the filter. As a result of this, the soot particles, mainly consisting out of carbon (C), are oxidized into CO2. Once converted to a gas it is able to leave the filter media.
