Now that the Democrats control Congress, how will that affect H.R. 5680?
It is important to understand and help others to understand that H.R.5680 passed the International Relations Committee of the House with a unanimous vote and bipartisan support. In the 109th Congress, Chris Smith, the Republican chairman of the Africa Subcommittee, was totally committed to the bill. In the current Congress, Donald Payne is equally committed to the bill. Both Smith and Payne remain equally committed to passage of the bill. We have two powerhouses championing our cause. In any case, we should all take comfort in Winston Churchills wise advice: Don’t worry. You can always count on the Americans to do the right thing after exhausting all other alternatives.
