My B*tch had mastitis with her one and only litter this past June. You should get her to the vets as soon as you noticed that one or more of her teats are enlarged, hard and or warm to the touch. Please get her to the vet ASAP as the infection can cause great pain and may spread. The vet will give you an antibiotic that will be safe for her to have while nursing the puppies. Put warm cloths and a heating pad on the teats. Get on the floor and sit with her, place the warm cloth (which should be in a zip lock bag and wrapped in a towel) for about 20 minutes at a time. Place a small towel over the affected areas before applying the heating pad. You should also be hand expressing her teats trying to get as much milk and infection out as you can in intervals of every 30 minutes. The mastitis is caused by a blocked mammary gland, leaving it untreated the teat becomes infected and needs to be unblocked by the above mentioned directions.
