Rhinoplasty requires a general anaesthetic to be administered so that you will be asleep throughout the procedure. Adjustments to the tip of the nose may be performed using local anaesthetic and intravenous sedation. Through the small incisions described previously, work is performed on the cartilage and bone that form the framework of your nose. Sometimes, the position of certain bones may need to be altered slightly in order to make your nose look narrower and straighter. Your nose can also be built up in some areas and your skin will redrape itself over this new “scaffolding”. Generally, bruising around the eyes and cheeks is most apparent during the first few days following surgery. Most discoloration will disappear within a week.
