Nissan Quest speedometer failure-head unit or sensor?
Mom’s got a 1998 Nissan Quest with 130,000 miles on it. About a year ago, the speedometer started acting strange (a common problem with these older Quests; supposedly the transmission speed sensor). It works about half the time; otherwise, it shows 0 mph, 110 mph, or occasionally a completely random reading (ex. shows 30 mph when the van’s going 70). So, yesterday I put in a new speed sensor pulled from another old Quest (with 191k) at the Pull-A-Part (don’t worry, I bought the warranty). I drove it around for a couple minutes and the speedo never came to life. But today, Mom drove it all over town, paying attention to the speedometer, and only noticed it at 110 once, which is more consistent than usual, I believe. The transmission has never shifted oddly with the old sensor nor with the current one. So what the question boils down to is this: Did I probably just pull another sensor with the same problem as the old one? Or is it probably the head unit (actual speedometer) that is to bl
