Need answer ASAP! What is base salary for career in Dental Sales???
If this dental sales job isn’t going to be your career – assuming that you do become a dental hygenist, does it really matter if it’s only just a stepping stone? Gaining the knowledge of the dental products that you would use on your patients should be of importance. Uncapped salary opportunities = commission based; if you are passionate about making money, it doesn’t matter what the base salary – just go sell more products! If the products are good use and of good value, dentists will buy! Being a dental hygenist doesn’t mean you will be good in sales …. sorry!
Actually, you would probably be a better sales person if you practiced as a hygienist first. You could probably command a better base salary then, too. Hygiene school is soooo much different than the “real world” and assuming you have to also pass a practical board, I would get that done and get some real world experience. After you have worked for a while, and I mean 2-5 years at least, then you would probably be able to base at about what your hygiene salary is, maybe a little less. But at this moment in time you don’t have the people experience, and the product experience for a higher base in sales. ps: its also a lot easier to sell a product to someone if you have actually walked in their shoes.
