Further Info] The Global Nuclear Energy Partnership (GNEP) is an initiative announced in February 2006 by the United States Government to encourage the growth of safe and secure nuclear energy worldwide. The principles of GNEP include (from the GNEP Statement of Principles signed by participating countries): • Expansion of nuclear power to help meet growing energy demand in a sustainable manner, and in a way that provides for safe operation of nuclear power plants and waste management. • In coopoeration with the IAEA, continue development of enhanced nuclear safeguards to effectively and efficiently monitor nuclear materials and facilities, to ensure nuclear energy systems are used only for peaceful purposes. • Establishment of international supply frameworks to enhance reliable, cost-effective fuel services an
