My work visa in Japan is going to expire, how long do I have to leave?
The day your visa expires, you have to leave Japan. Overstaying even one day could get you deported, and unable to re-enter Japan for years. You can get a tourist visa extension at your local immigration office, but it is not automatic, and you must apply for it. It can take weeks to get the extension, depending on how busy the immigration office is, so the sooner you apply for it the better.
