My wear metals are higher on the used Emgard synthetic than I have seen previously with petroleum based lubes. Is something wrong?
No, the full synthetic Emgard gear lubricants contain a high performance basestock which form small amounts of metal salts (iron and copper). These will show up at higher levels than petroleum oils by laboratory analysis, but may not indicate higher wear. Extremely high levels of wear metals(>500 ppm iron in the transmission or >1000 ppm iron in the axle lubes) may indicate a problem and should be investigated.
