My utility reports that it uses biomass to produce electricity. What are some examples of biomass?
The Minnesota Legislature has defined biomass to include agricultural waste as well as plants such as herbaceous crops, trees, and aquatic plant matter. Waste wood, fast-growth poplar trees, and poultry litter are examples of the types of fuels called “biomass” burned to produce electricity in Minnesota. Contact your local utility to find out which specific types of biomass your utility is using.
