My Urchin report shows more Visitors than Pageviews. How can this be?

There are a couple of different scenarios that will cause the Visitor total to exceed the Pageview total. If you have images or other non-pages linked directly from other sites, it is possible that the image is being hit without an html page. This would result in the recording of visitors without pageviews, since images count as hits, but not pageviews. Another potential cause could be the use of multiple IPs by a single visitor. Under the current definition of a visitor, which is similar to “user sessions”, visitors using multiple IPs would be counted as multiple visitors. While not widespread, we have seen this occur from certain Web-spiders and ISPs.
