If you have manual hubs on the front axle of your truck, make certain they are fully engaged in the LOCKED position. If you have automatic locking hubs in front, find out if they are engaging properly either by having your local service station put the truck on a frame lift and checking them or safely doing it yourself via some other method. If they will not engage its usually a linkage adjustment or faulty internals in the case. The worry is usually with the electronically shifted T-cases found in later model trucks. The Borg-Warner 1356 electronic transfer case and its cousins that are found in the Explorer and the Ranger are prone to shift motor failure or misalignment.
