Obviously, the borrower should have a strong relationship to the student, since the loan is in the borrower’s name. PLUS loans are NOT parent-only. [2] Alternative student loans are another good choice, especially for students who have been turned down for federal aid. A cosigner is strongly recommended, but the advantage of the alternative student loan is that the loan is principally in the student’s name.
