Based on what I have read about obtaining a new Sosial Security number, that is pretty much reserved for a VERY select few groups of people. Losing or getting a card stolen is not reason enough to get a new number. You might consider monitoring your credit report for any out of the ordinary items, indicating someone has stolen your identity. Beyond that, getting a new card is probably your only other option. Be sure and go to the Social Security website and look at the FAQ section on getting a new number. Once you are issued a SS number, its yours for life, unless you meet the criteria of the select few people who may get a new number.
