My skin is peeling after getting a tan. Does anyone know how to stop it and possibly fix it so that the skin colour isn different where it has peeled?
The best thing to do is wait it out. Try exfoliating the area and applying moisturizer. I recommend Hold It Right There Tan Extender from Bath and Body Works. It has a combination of aloe and tea tree oil that hydrate the skin. The most important thing is DON’T TOUCH OR PICK AT IT. The skin underneath the peel is very sensitive and it’s going to hurt and get infected. Then you have a couple options. You can use makeup if you’re talented, you can use self tanners, or you can wait it out. Once you exfoliate and moisturize it should not look fine as long as you don’t pick it. Eventually it will even out on it’s own. it’s frustrating, but be safe with it.
Basically, a tan is your skin cells trying to rescue all the deeper cells by sacrificing themselves, throwing themselves on the UV grenade. It’s pretty much not going to go away until all the dead/damaged cells are gone. I suggest peeling it where it’s loose (only because I’m gross like that, you probably shouldn’t) and using a self tanner where it’s funky looking. Or long sleeves or something. I *don’t* suggest tanning over it because it’d just make it worse.
