Dear Ed, Thank you for your response to my previous contribution. I agree with your point concerning the important roll of willingness in sticking to a system. However, a further observation that I was trying to draw out with the example in my previous e-mail was the distinction between willingness to stick to the system at a conscious, rational (CM-type) level and willingness to stick to the system at a more unconscious (Fred-like) level. I have never really had a problem at the CM level with willingness in sticking to a system as I am a disciplined person and my systems are mechanical and algorithmic in nature. However, as my example illustrated, I occasionally find weak spots when Fred-like feelings bubble up and filter through in the execution of the system that are powerful enough to override it momentarily – which can have significant consequences in terms of actual performance (deviating from hypothetical, expected or simulated performance).
