My question specifically is, where does the microswitch ride on the cam assembly for the salt/backwash mechanism?
Typically the cam will only go on one way. The metal mechanism that the cam pushes down on has a long and short side to the “t”. When the unit is in the normal or service position, both micro switches buttons are out. Backwash both are depressed, brine the top one comes out in the notched area of the cam while the bottom one is still depressed, fast rinse/refill both are depressed again and then back to service where they both are released again. Hope this helps. If you are talking the one on the back of the timer mechanism, do the alignment by setting the salt and backwash times in alignment. Then usually the back will get in the proper position. If you had everything torn apart, you may need to go look at one that is together to make sure you did not reinstall incorrectly. You almost never need to disassemble the timer mechanism. It has been years since I’ve had one apart completely and I would probably look at a spare one to make sure I did it properly myself. I suspect you may have
