My question is, what is the paramedic/ firefighter field like,as in pay, stress, and home time?
Answer Ken, I know exactly where you are coming from. When I returned from Iraq I didn’t have a job anymore since my employer had gone out of business while I was overseas. I was lucky enough to have a good amount of leave saved up, so I could afford to look for a job. Anyway, your question I am assuming is related to the civilian occupation of firefighting, not the military, so that’s how I’m going to answer it. Pay depends usually on certification level, experience, and the area where you get a job. It sounds like you don’t have any experience or certifications, so you’d be going in at the bottom. Getting the job itself will be the bigger obstacle for you, as firefighting jobs are extremely competitive. Since you’re in the marines, you’re probably in better shape than most, so passing the physical agility shouldn’t be a problem for you. Usually they also have a written general knowledge test, and then a set of interviews. Some places will be hiring for 10 positions and get hundreds,
