My question is, what is the difference between ELCA and United Methodist?
I want to know what the school will teach her that may differ from my beliefs. ANSWER: Jennifer: You raise a good question. I do think that for your experience, in a school setting, you will not really find much difference between the ELCA and UMC. We are both “mainline” Protestants with generally moderate views in regard to the Bible and theology. We both view the Bible as essential and as God’s Word, but both claim that Jesus is the ultimate Word of God and that the Bible points to Jesus as the Word of God. We don’t tend to interpret the Bible, therefore, as literalistically as some more Fundamentalist denominations. For instance, we both would say the the Creation (Genesis 1) could have been done in 6, 24-hour days, but it also does not need to be interpreted that way, that the real point is that God created the heavens and the earth (Gen. 1:1).
