Another take: The product key on the label on your machine is only for Windows itself. Word (really, MS Office) requires another key that would be on the CD, CD case or other CD packaging material for Office. Now if this is because Word has been working for a while but now refuses to let you edit your own files, that’s probably because it was a trial version that was good for 25 uses or 30, 60 or 90 days. At the end of that time, and apparently without warning, it stops letting you edit your files or create new ones. You have to purchase Microsoft Office 2007, or at least Word 2007, to do that. Like being hooked like a fish, isn’t it? If you have files that are locked up in the new Word 2007 file format (.docx), here’s a possibility for salvaging them.
