In Windows 98, the hard drive ( inside the PC ) and the portable hard drive were automatically formatted as FAT32, when you upgrade your PC to Windows XP, the installation programme will format the hard drive ( inside the PC ) as NTFS by default, which will cause the portable hard drive not be recongised.
