My parrot keeps trying to fly away… can a parrot fly without wings?
By “without wings” I presume (and hope) you mean wing feathers? So, if this is an adult parrot, you can take it to an avian vet and have its wing feathers clipped – I say “avian” vet because there are other vets out there who don’t know what they’re doing when it comes to birds, and who have caused untold agony and suffering to birds (they can also bleed to death from cutting a blood feather), so don’t trust just any vet. If it’s a baby, do NOT have its wings clipped until it has learned to fly properly or you will have a parrot who becomes sedentary and will never be as agile as a parrot who has learned to fly properly. Having said that, birds can sometimes fly even with clipped wing feathers, so, if and when you do decide to have his feathers clipped (and please do not attempt this yourself), don’t trust leaving him anywhere outside on his own (as someone I know learnt recently when she left her freshly clipped african grey outside and it disappeared!).
