Actually, the IC-229A/H has a receive attenuator function which you may have inadvertently activated. Attenuator on/off control is located in transceiver’s set mode menu. Push Set to enter the set mode, and keep pushing set until you see ATT ON. Rotate the main tuning dial to change ATT ON into ATT OFF, and the attenuator will turn off.
