My neighbour’s dog barks all the time, who do I complain to and how?
Animal noise complaints can be reported by calling (905) 683-8275 or by email to animalservices@townofajax.com. The Dog and Cat By-law states that ‘No owner of a dog shall, knowingly or not knowingly, allow the dog to howl or bark excessively’. For the purposes of this section, a dog shall be deemed to be howling or barking excessively if the howling or barking exceeds a cumulative twenty (20) minute period within any one (1) hour timeframe. As part of our investigation, an Animal Services Officer will attend the residence of the barking dog and advise the owner that a complaint was received and that the owner should take action to correct the problem. Should the problem persist, the complainant would then be requested to keep Barking Logs. This log would be used as evidence in Court to refresh the complainant’s memory.
