You are getting excellent advice here! Document absolutely everything and please call in. People are far too concerned about “minding their own business” nowadays. This is a baby’s life on the line. That is not being melodramatic. It is a baby’s LIFE. You have to call. The people at the hospital may not be as fooled as they seem – I really hope that they, too, are documenting everything. They would not want to act alarmed or concerned for fear that the mother would take the baby and take off. As for the condescneding answer from UBER BABIES ALLIES or whatever – it is very naive and dangerous to think that just because someone is taking methadone or says that they are means that they are not also continuing their drug use. Also, helping the mother and calling social services are not mutually exclusive options. The asker can do both. Her concern, however, is obviously for the baby and I don’t blame her.

it is normal for babies who were born to a mother who was on methadone to go through withdrawals but they should really be slowly taken away from that like beign breast fed by the mother so they slowly get withdrawen from it but you should definitly call social services if you know they are unfit parents and especially if both parents are still using good luck i know its had but do whats best for that baby hope that helps osme

YES! Call social services and tell someone at the hospital your concerns! The hospital has probably already called them if the baby if going through withdrawls.

It’s highly likely that the hospital has already called social services. In my state it’s mandatory that any drug exposed new born be assigned to a CPS social worker. I would still call social services, because you may be able to provide information that the hospital doesn’t have.

Call Social Services and let them know about your concerns. Your name should remain anonymous (mention that you want to remain anonymous too) and the tests at the hospital should show that the baby is having withdrawals too.
