Q- My motor has 6 leads. Is it wound across the line or wye-delta? A- The motor could be either a single voltage wye-delta wound motor or a dual voltage across the line motor. Most hydraulic elevator motors that are under oil are wye-delta wound. An air motor may be either. Check the motor nameplate to be sure. Q- My motor has 9 leads. Is it wound across the line or wye-delta? A- It is wound across the line/in-line. Q- My elevator motor is has 12 leads. Is it wound across the line or wye-delta? A- It is most likely a dual voltage wye-delta wound motor. For proper starter application check to see what line voltage is actually being used at this installation. Q- The hydraulic elevator motor name plate on the outside of the oil tank shows it is a wye-delta motor but only 3 leads are coming out to the starter. What’s going on? A- Most likely the motor is a wye-delta wound motor but the leads have been tied together inside so that it acts like an across the line wound motor. If you need to
