My MaxCold cooler is advertised as a “5 Day Cooler” – what does this mean?(and what does “ice retention” mean?)
Igloo MaxCold coolers are made with more insulating Ultratherm® foam than conventional coolers and offer the highest degree of cooling performance. The level of cooling is given an “ice retention” rating that is measured in “days” that the cooler retains ice based on controlled laboratory conditions. During this test the cooler is filled with a fixed amount of ice, the lid is closed and it is placed in an oven at 90 degrees Fahrenheit, to simulate a warm outdoor environment. The temperature of the ice is measured and the time recorded until the ice reaches a temperature of 39 degrees Fahrenheit and has begun to melt (freezing is 32 degrees Fahrenheit). The time (measured in days – e.g. “5 Days”) appears as a large number on the cooler label to indicate the length of time the cooler retains ice during this test. Because cooler usage and conditions vary, actual cooler performance may vary from laboratory results. Consumer research told us you wanted longer lasting ice retention while usi
