A. Yes it could, but it causes problems, so I’ve taken it back out again. The problem is that the synaptics touchpad pretends to be an ordinary ps/2 mouse. The synaptics drivers add various extra functionality like being able to control the tap behaviour, pressure sensitivity etc. However, because the hardware pretends to be a ps/2 mouse, if I include the driver in the general set, the synaptics driver ends up being installed on any machine with a ps/2 mouse, not just laptops that have the synaptics hardware. The synaptics driver should be installed manually following installation of the laptop. The touchpad will work normally in the meantime, but you won’t be able to configure the behaviour as fully as the synaptics driver can.
