My lamps socket says “60 Watts Maximum”. Can I use a Compact fluorescent bulb with an “equivalency” greater than 60 watts?
Yes. You should compare the actual wattage used by the compact fluorescent (CFL) bulb, not the “equivalence” to determine whether you can use a particular CFL bulb in a particular socket. For example, a CFL bulb that is equivalent to a 75 Watt Incandescent bulb, but uses an actual 20 Watts, can be used in a socket that says you should not exceed 60 Watts.
