I had a min pin and he was extremely hard to potty train. Take them out as often as possible and be patient. Stay with them until the job is done. Every 2 hours seems to be a good rule of thumb. When indoors, put a few coins in a can. If you catch your pet in the middle of using the bathroom inside, shake the can. This will startle your pet. Then immediately take them outside. PATIENCE is definitely the key here.

Dogs of any age can be trained to do just about any behavior we want, as long as the dog is physically/mentally and emotionally capable. I had one client who had adopted an adult male dog, that had needed a new home after the prior life long owner died. This lovely fellow, a Dobi/Rott mix had not been neutered until just before adoption, and had been inside a house exactly 5 times in his life. No matter what age the dog is, you want to treat it as if it were a very young puppy to start, one that has NO clue at all that there is proper potty behavior to use…assume the dog doesn’t know what you want or how to do it. She may never have been trained at all, she may have been accidentally trained to go in the house because she may have been initially taught with Potty pads, which can confuse the puppy…carpet feels rather s
