Either you are letting the plant dry out or it is getting too much nitrogen fertilizer. Water deeply during the dry season and reduce the amount of fertilizer. This plant usually does very well with little feeding. Even though Nandina does not have to be pruned, a light shaping in the winter will encourage berry production.
