If your gym instructor told you to just do dynamic stretches (i.e. stretch a muscle, hold it, stretch another muscle) then ignore him/her. They’re undertrained and shouldn’t be giving you advice. Dynamic stretching PRIOR to weight training will cause a loss of strength in the muscle stretched and increase the likelihood of injury to it. However. You MUST warm up the muscles, this will gradually bring up your overall body temperature, make your muscles more flexible/pliable, increase blood flow to the muscles you’re about to work, relocate blood from other systems (for example digestion) to assist the workload and man, many other things. Aim for 5-10 minutes of cardio to bring your heart rate up and maybe leave you just breaking a sweat. Complete body movements are best (as mentioned before, star jumps are good) – or just use a cross trainer. Running on a treadmill even helps (make sure you move your arms though to get blood flowing through the upper body). You can also use ballistic st
