My golf shoes are advertised as having “GTX” – what does that mean?
It is cool, you can use them in winter, because they are waterproof. But for summer I think the best variant is to buy spikeless golf shoes. They are cheaper, as metal isn’t needed for spikes, plus they are styled the same as astro turf boots used for soccer or trainer type shoes. At ECCO Oxford, GTX is shorthand for GORE-TEX®, which is the fancy way of saying that the shoes are guaranteed to be 100% waterproof. The GORE-TEX® membrane in your shoe has pores that are large enough to allow steam molecules to escape from the foot, but small enough to ensure that water molecules cannot get in. In other words, GTX means the shoes are not only waterproof but also breathable – perfect!
