This is probably caused by the metal-on-metal parts wearing out. First, check the steering gears and reduction gears inside the steering box. These parts are usually readily available and easily replaceable except in extremely old models. Also, The steering rack/rod system may be worn. The rack usually rides along the reduction gear and eventually one or the other will wear out. Finally, the tie rod ends are one of the big culprits of steering play. Due to the metal-on-metal contact, the holes in the spindles or other parts will wear and no longer provide a tight fit resulting in play. • Mechanical Problems – Electric Cars • My car runs fine on level ground, but loses power on inclinces.
