My garden has raised beds made with plain untreated wood. How can I tell if the boards are rotting?
Carefully dig the dirt away from one corner of your bed. Now spray some water on the exposed boards to wash away the dirt. With a bad case of rot you will see obvious cavities in the boards. If you do not see any obvious cavities, then take something like a screwdriver and poke a bit at the wood. If the screwdriver tip enters the wood, then that is an area where rot is taking place.
