My garbage disposal stopped running and when I flip the switch no sound is heard from the disposal?
You need to hit the reset switch usually located on the bottom of the unit, in this case it was overloaded and its circuit breaker has tripped. If you turn it on and it just makes a humming noise then your disposal is jammed with something and the blades need to be freed. In some cases the motor to the deposal is burnt up and in need of replacement. TIPS FROM THE PLUMBER: 1. Never put anything down the toilet that should not be there to prevent clogs. 2. Bleach is a good maintenance cleaner and its cheap- it won’t clear a clog but it’s good at preventing a problem. If you are on a septic type system consult your installer before introducing bleach into the system as it can kill bacteria needed for your system to function properly. 3. Never put noodles or rice in large portions down your garbage disposal they are the #1 cause of clogs. 4. Know when you are over your head its always cheaper in the long run to call a professional than to make matters more costly and worse. Call us for any
