My fridge freezer has a build up of ice, what do I do?
• The first thing is to ensure the door is closed properly and there are no gaps around the door seal, also that the seal isn’t damaged. One of the most common reasons for a build up of ice is that the door isn’t being closed properly and warm air is being sucked into the freezer compartment and making the freezer work so hard it fills with ice. Also check the water drainage pipes to ensure they are not blocked. If your freezer still has a build up of ice, you should contact your manufacturer. The only way to get rid of ice is to defrost the fridge freezer completely. Empty the freezer, transferring anything you need to keep frozen to another freezer, switch it off at the mains and leave for 48 hours with the doors open. Please be aware that there will be excess water as the ice melts, so it would be advisable to keep an eye on your appliance throughout this time. Don’t be tempted to take a hammer or blow dryer to the ice.
