If you are planning on doing a fair amount of traveling around while you are in the Dominican Republic, you may want to rent a car at your arrival airport. The roads from Santo Domingo through Santiago and Puerto Plata to Cabarete are good highways. The bus service, either Metro or Caribe Tours, is inexpensive and comfortable if you are not planning to rent a car. Currently both bus lines drop you off in Sosa, and a short taxi ride to Cabarete.
