A. All-Out Defense (AoD) (B97, 106) can be tactically useful. It is your best option the turn after you are hit and recovering from the wound/shock penalty. B. For nimble characters consider Acrobatic Dodge (B48, B98, B108). C. Retreating (B109) gives you a +3, and while it may screw up your ability to press an attack, it tips the odds in your favor. D. Use Spears, Bastard Swords, or other reach-2 weapons (B102) if you can. You’ll keep your foe at a distance; most adversaries will use small hand weapons like swords, clubs, and axes. A reach 2 weapon will allow you to do things like attack and step BACK. Combined with a “Wait” action, a reach 2 impaling weapon like a short spear can be used to great effect. E. Armor is good (B72, B99), and shields (B75, B99-100) are better. The PD bonus of a shield adds a great deal to defenses, and allows a Block ( Shield skill (B98)) vs missile weapons.
