My family member needs help with personal care, bathing, light housekeeping, meal preparation, and laundry. Are these services covered?
Medicare and most insurance companies cover personal care if there is a skilled need during an acute illness. Home care aide services are usually short term, when they are covered. Housekeeping services are not covered under the home care benefit. Special long-term insurance policies purchased by an individual may cover these services. Benefits vary with policy. Visiting Nurse Association can help you research your policy coverage. Visiting Nurse Association can provide these services through our chronic care division, Special Care Services. Community funding through United Way and Commission on Aging may be available for a limited amount of service.
