My EVOLT E-500 does not lock the exposure in the M (manual) shooting mode even though I press the AEL/AFL (auto exposure lock) button. Why not?
Olympus DSLRs do not meter light to automatically establish the exposure setting when the shooting mode is set to M (manual). Instead, the photographer must manually set the exposure by entering aperture and shutter speed values. This is by design. Because there is no auto exposure, there can be no AEL.
