If you are a Cummins user, Cummins requires coolant filtration on all engines except the B Series. Coolant filtration significantly reduces cooling system component damage such as water pump seal leakage, erosion of metals from high speed particles in coolant, chemical attack of components by solid contaminants, and restricted flow. An SAE Technical Paper (881270) goes into much greater detail. Coolant filters are used by many engine OEMs.
