My Dryer takes twice as long to dry clothes as it used to. Whats the matter with it?
A. Normally this problem is caused by a congested dryer – full of lint. Even if you clean the filter after every load, some of the lint gets past the filter into the air flow. This lint can cover the operating thermostat stopping it from cycling the element. When this happens, the element cycles on the safety thermostat which has a lot longer cycle time than the operating thermostat. If unattended, this lint can get into the motor and cause it to overheat and even burn out. The air flow and vent must be clear of lint for the dryer to work properly. Q.
