My dogs hair is dry and stiff, what can I do? Home made remedies?
Some dogs are supposed to have a stiff, hard coat (such as Dobermans). However, if the coat is truly dry and not at its best, you want to first be sure that your dog is healthy. Some conditions can seriously affect the hair/skin (such as hypothyroidism). Next, you want to be sure that you are feeding a superior quality diet. Dog foods that you find in grocery stores typically contain low quality ingredients and grains (especially corn) which can cause poor skin/coat condition. It is amazing how much improvement can be seen just from switching to a top quality, grain-free food which includes the Omega 3 & 6 essential fatty acids. When bathing, be sure to follow up with a good conditioner. Finally, be sure to gently brush your dog regularly as this will stimulate the production & distribution of the natural oils and clean out dead hair and skin cells. ADD: No avocado on your dog…it can be toxic if accidentally ingested by your dog.
