My dog has current Rabies shots, can he be quarantined at home?
Normally, yes, the dog can be quarantined at home. If the owner does not have a place where he can safely quarantine the dog, or if the investigating officer feels that there is a legitimate reason that a “safe quarantine” cannot be completed at the owner’s home, a shelter or Veterinarian quarantine may be required. WHY? The purpose of quarantine is to ensure that the dog does not come into contact with other animals or humans, for ten days following a bite. If the dog is actually “shedding” the “rabies virus”, he will show symptoms, or die within that ten day quarantine. Quarantine reduces the risk of further exposure.
