My doctor said that they contacted the utilization review company for my hospital stay or surgery but Sage Technologies penalized me. What can I do?
Contact your doctor’s office and ask for the confirmation number they were given by Hines & Associates at the time of the precertification. Once you have this number you can contact Hines & Associates and inform them of the error and they should contact Sage Technologies to correct the situation. If your doctor does not have a confirmation number ask for a date, time and who they talked to. Hopefully Hines can review their records and correct the situation this way. If your doctor does not have any information then a utilization review was not done and the penalty must be paid. Your doctor can precertify your hospital stay or surgery for you but it is ultimately your responsibility to verify that it was done. Please verify that your doctor precertified your stay by contacting Hines & Associates yourself and asking if the process had been started by your doctor’s office. If nothing has been done then give the nurse on the phone the information needed and start the process yourself.
