My doctor has suggested that I have a Port-A-Cath installed. Does anyone here have one?
I am also on IVIG for CVID. I had trouble with my veins from the start. Now, I am a patient person and am willing to tolerate a lot of pain but it was getting unbearable. The last time my nurse tried to start an IV, he had to call for backup. All in all, there were three nurses at my house who stuck me at least ten times and blew five veins before they all walked out on me. I had a port installed the next day (after all my gamma was in my fridge and was only good for 48 hours). That was two months ago. They installed my port and the nurse used it the same day. The surgery was not too big a deal. It took less than an hour. The site was sore for a few days and I had trouble using my arm for about a week. However, I flew to Orlando five days after my surgery and had a great time. There is a risk of infection. I don’t let just anyone access it and make sure they use aseptic technique. So far I have no problems with it and it makes my infusions much easier!
